Experience the fortifications

's-Hertogenbosch's fortifications together with the cathedral of St. Jan and the Binnendieze [town river] are the town's main attractions. The fortifications can be visited by boat, bicycle or on foot;

  • Fortifications Boating
    In a boat you travel the canal system underneath the town and the moat along the fortifications' walls. A guide provides information on the interesting elements encountered. But there are also other ways of touring the town on water.
  • Fortifications cycling
    You can rent a bicycle in town centre and select one of the routes that have been laid out.
  • Fortifications walk
    You can walk along the fortifications with or without a guide.

Every year, 's-Hertogenbosch organises different activities which centre on the fortifications;

Activities:Start Vestingsloop 2007

  • Fortifications run 2007
    On Sunday 13 May 2007 the recreational Fortifications Run was organized for the second time. Over 1000 runners ran various distances (Half Marathon, 15, 10 and 5 km) with the fortifications as its backdrop. Non-runners entertained themselves at the simultaneous Fortifications Fair.
    Exercise and healthy food keep you fit. During the Fortifications Fair various organisations presented their special activities and farmers from the surrounding area provided a taste of their fresh, healthy regional products. Vestingfair Moederdaglunch
