Fortified 's-Hertogenbosch The story of the fortifications Cooperation Experience the fortifications Update April 2010: European heritage award for 's-Hertogenbosch' Fortifications

The European Commission and Europa Nostra have announced the winners for the 2010 Edition of the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage. The Dutch walled town and WTFC member 's-Hertogenbosch was one of the winners.

The jury was highly impressed by the complexity of the project undertaken by the fortified town of 's-Herogenbosch to restore the decaying town walls in a manner congruent with the historic town centre. The restoration process firstly made the fortification walls more visible for the inhabitants through a traditionally crafted new passage. An information centre was also built around the excavated turret and the older parts of the walls. The project was conducted to the highest standard due to expert historical, archaeological, technical and ecological research.

The awards will be presented during the 8th Annual European Heritage Awards Ceremony, taking place in Istanbul, Turkey on 10 June 2010, as part of the Europa Nostra Annual Congress. These events contribute to the celebration of Istanbul as a European Capital of Culture 2010.
